Resolution Recap: New Years Resolutions for 2026

Long time no see (since April, in fact)! I've mentioned in a previous post that I've been keeping a physical journal, and I think that started eating into my blog-writing time, so I haven't posted as much as I would have liked. In any case, I wanted to do a resolution recap for 2026 to check in on where I am with my goals and how much I've accomplished so far.

2026 Goals and Resolutions

⚠️ A work in progress
⭕ Success!
❌ Fail

⚠️Get my drivers license

I'm proud to admit that I'm making great progress on this goal. I've taken five hours of driving lessons with an instructor, as well as done some driving with my parents while running random errands. I have my mandatory five-hour online class scheduled for this month, and I'm enrolled in a defensive driving course. I'm hoping to pass my road test in August, so stay tuned for the update at the end of the year to see how that works out! I can't say I'm super confident when driving, but I'm getting better and better with each drive that I do. I even drove my family to the diner for my Dad's birthday. :)

⚠️No more (English) doomscrolling

I was doing SO well for the first four and a half months, but something happened in May and I totally fell off the wagon. As of this week, I'm back to avoiding English-language doomscrolling, which I plan to continue for the rest of the year. I feel like I've made great progress this year in curating my algorithm toward more meaningful content, which is great, but the more time away from social media, the better!

⭕Cook 12 new recipes

So far, this goal is a success. I haven't completed all 12 recipes yet, but I've made eight, so I'm right on track for where I should be. I'm using my Notes app to track links to the recipes I've tried, any adjustments I made, and how much everyone who tasted them liked or disliked them. Here are a few of the things I've made so far:
  • Shepherds Pie with Sweet Potato ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Matcha Cheesecake with Oreo Crust ⭐⭐⭐.5
  • Creamy Avocado Pasta ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'll share everything I made at the end of the year!

⭕Read 5 books/manga in Japanese

I'm so happy and proud to announce that I have not only accomplished this goal, but surpassed it! I've read 11 light novels in Japanese, and I can really feel how much more confident I've become as a reader. I used to actively avoid reading in Japanese, but with the right tools, I realized it can be painless. I've been using the app Immersion Reader, which I'll probably write a post/review about someday. I'm aiming to read a few more books this year, with each book gradually increasing in difficulty, so I'm excited to report back in December.

Ultimately, I'm working really hard on getting my goals done this year. My biggest accomplishment is going to be getting that license, and I'm determined to do it! Apologies again for this post coming so late, I know I usually do them in June but I was actually on my honeymoon. I'll be sure to share that soon so I'll see you in the next post xoxo
